Target and Hobby Lobby Sale Details - LONG

Today I will break down some items you may want to considering purchasing during this after Christmas sale season.  I know some of you may say things like "I don't need anything", "I can't buy ahead", "I'm over Christmas and I am ready to move on", but I want to encourage you to reconsider.  You do not have to go overboard like me (a sickness remember?), but you could instead make some smart decisions to save for your family.

My breakdown will address items that were still in stock as of yesterday.  As you are taking down your decorations and hopefully neatly packing it back up, take some time to do some inventory.

Check your Christmas bags, tissue paper, wrapping paper, holiday plates/napkins (if used), cupcake papers (if used), ribbon, bows, ornaments, lights, and general decorations.

Christmas Bags - Do you have a variation of sizes? You should have a minimum of 2 bags per size.  If you a hoarder like me, 2 per size is laughable.  Side note:  I just organized my bags.........isn't it pretty.  I swear, I could stare at it for hours.

Your goal is NOT to purchase bags next year at full price.  Bags are ridiculously expensive and adds additional cost to a probably already expensive gift.  Save the money buy bags in advance.

If you are lucky enough to find any bags left at your Target dollar spot you can score these large thick bags for just 30 CENTS!! You heard me right.

If you missed them at the dollar spot then stock up at either Target Christmas or Hobby Lobby.  Prices are pretty equal and both stores had plenty in stock.

***Here is an important message - Make sure to pick up bags that are not Christmas related, so that you get them at rock bottom prices for all occasions.  Hobby Lobby has zebra and leopard***. 80 percent off!!

Wrapping Paper - Check your inventory, what do you need? I like to have presents under the tree that are wrapped in variation.  One print/pattern per season will just not work for me.  I was low this year and my inventory is down to one Christmas roll!!!  Eek.

Target and Hobby Lobby both have a significant amount of paper left.  Hobby Lobby is down to just a few patterns available (mainly red/white and black/white).  Target has a ton.  Target will be your lower price (around 70 cents to 1.20) with Hobby Lobby being a little nicer (1.60).

Again, look for patterns that can go year round not just Christmas. You should NEVER need to run to the store to buy paper to wrap a birthday present........NEVER.

Tissue Paper - Of course buy white paper, obviously, but also buy all colors (if your supply is low).  Red and green don't have to be Christmas if not together.  Target had gold and silver that are great for baby showers and weddings!! Tissue paper can always be used for crafts with kids!

Holiday plates/napkins - Do you entertain at all during the holidays?  I don't mean host the entire family for Christmas day dinner, but do you catch up with old friends, host a playdate, does ANYONE come to your house during the holidays?? If the answer is yes......you need Christmas plates and napkins.  I promise it will make your visit just a little more merry and bright by offering some leftovers on a Christmas plate paired with a matching napkin.  No matter how crazy you feel inside.........it will give your guest the impression that you have it all together.  Don't we just need that some times?  Hobby Lobby had a much bigger selection.

Plus check out these super cute Jesus napkins!  LOVE THIS!

Cupcake Papers - My rule is that patterned cupcake paper things should not be more than 1 cent per cup.  Hobby Lobby has several choices for 50 for just 40 cents.  You need it.  Bake some cupcakes, serve on Christmas plates with matching napkins and you are a hostess with the mostess for sure in my book.

Are you feeling more educated yet? Ready to shop? Lets keep going.

General Decor - If you still have your decorations up (which you should......its not New Years yet), scan your house and look at the placement of all of your decorations.  Anything missing? Do you already have too much? Do you like everything you have?  Before heading to my first trip to Hobby Lobby I asked my husband if there is anything he can think of that we need for next Christmas (he actually participates in decisions like these).  We looked around and decided that we liked everything that we had and there was no other place to sit anything.  I knew that I wasn't looking for decor unless I found the following:  the perfect navitity scene for the perfect price, a new nutcracker (we get one every year), or something to put over my center cabinets.

See empty.

Struck out on the navity scene, but I found this nutcracker for $6 at Target!

I also found these letters originally $30 and got them for $9. I could not believe there was still one set left!!!

Lights - Everyone is looking for lights, so you have to get there when the doors open for the best selection.  Both stores have lights left, but only non-traditional colors.  If that is what you are looking for then you could score!! I picked up some pink and purple lights for RL next year for 70 percent off at Target!

Okay.....if you have stayed with me this far into the blog, here are a few additional tips for your Target shopping.  Plan to spend a little extra time in the store to walk through the aisles.  Sometimes Christmas items are on the aisles of the categories (electronics, makeup, etc).  Look for red/green or gold packaging and scan the item.  You could be surprised by 70 percent off!!!

Dont forget that items labeled with a black triangle at the dollar spot are just 30 cents. Think ahead for future activities, bday party favors, or restock your prize box.

Now, a final plug for michales. They were pretty cleared out, but you may be able to find a few things left at 80% off. Here are a few things I found.

Look at these adorable ornaments for $1!! They look great on your tree or for a gift!

Both of my kids have the same initials. I got these adorable letters for 59 cents

And who doesmt love sticker books!!

Good luck out there!

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

I took an unplanned break from blogging the last couple of weeks.  I am constantly "blogging" in my head and taking pics to post, but I just never got it to my site.

I will be doing a Christmas in review post sometime this week, but I need to address some time sensitive information first.  AFTER CHRISTMAS SALES!! As you know, I am a sucker for sales.  Its an untreated sickness that I can't control.  Some of these available deals just cannot be beat!!! So, if any point during this Christmas holiday you said to yourself "I wish I had..........." this is the time to make that wish come true!!

Hobby Lobby - 80 % off!! My hobby lobby had tons left, but it was a mad house so it will go QUICK!

Target - 70% off with holiday food 50% off!

I'll post pics of my finds tomorrow!

Preparing for Christmas

There are soooooo many opinions on how a family "should" do Christmas.  Santa - No Santa, Advent - What is Advent?, Gifts - No Gifts.  Elves -  Jesus Style Elves - Funny Elves and so on and so on. The opinions are endless and strong and insistent by some.

There is so much pressure that some how indicates that the way we "do" Christmas equals our worth as a parent (oh-mi-goodness you "lie" to your kids) our religious views (Santa sucks Christ out of Christmas), and basically our ability to do things the "right" way (as defined by whoever is spitting out their lectures).
In my opinion, social media is the center of all this judgement.

Before facebook, we just carried on the traditions of our families and maybe threw in a couple of more that made us feel good.  I love doing the same things I did growing up, because it makes me feel young and excited.  When I hear the very first song on the Oak Ridge boys CDS, I immediately can feel the excitement that I did on Christmas day running to see what Santa had brought (although I already knew because I always peeked in the middle of the night).  What is wrong with this????

You hop on facebook to do a quick scroll through to see some cute kids and  people bark about Santa, judge about "lying", think that the magic of Santa is teaching witchcraft (seriously I read this), blah blah blah.

I'll make a confession.  I did fall into the pit of judgement and decided to try out advent.  I have never done this or even heard of it honestly, but it seemed according to facebook that this is the ONLY way you can keep CHRIST in Christmas.

We have done 3 readings and 3 activities based on a book called "The Truth in the Tinsel" (Bible readings and ornaments to match the theme) .  This is what I have learned.

    1)  I like lesson plans
    2)  I like designated talking points
    3)  The activities take about 10 minutes
    4)  I can stick to it a few nights a week, but not every night
    5)  I still don't understand Advent - the candles are too much
    6)  More creative moms can teach about Jesus without Advent/thebook
    7)  I have to write it down to remember
    8)  There is no way I can make this a family event with 2 working parents and a 10 month old
    9)  Christmas is fun either way
   10) RL typically just want the 5 min short version so she can watch a Christmas movie (she can't help it,     she is totally my child)

**I really like book.  It is good for ME**

So here is my stance, do Christmas the way that makes you feel good as a family.  Don't do Christmas the way that others think you should.  Most certainly, keep CHRIST in the center of your holiday, but Santa can be there too if that is what you choose.  There is alot of magic in our household and I am not a witch, but I do encourage make believe.  Its good for the soul.

I'll leave you with some cute ornaments that we made for our tree

Jesus is the light of the world

Jesus is the King

Deals this Week - December 9

This week is a bust for deals.  No big freebies or anything worth racing to the store.  However if you are "rolling" (using extra bucks or rewards) at any of the drug stores, you need to search out the circular for something that is a good deal FOR YOU.  What do you need? Any "happy" presents needed for a friend? Teachers gifts? Bday gift? For goodness sakes, don't forget to use your dollars by thinking there is nothing to spend it on!!!!!
Check your expiration dates and decide if you must use them this week or can it wait in order to check the deals next week.  For example, Walgreens rewards have a shorter time period of use. Therefore, my rewards from black friday expire on the 13th so by Friday I must make a decision.  My CVS bucks do not expire until 12/27, so I will wait to check out the sales the next couple of weeks before purchasing any items!!
I did stumble upon a HUGE deal at Michaels yesterday.  Thanksgiving crafts were marked 80% off.  These cute little projects rang up for 1 PENNY!!! Woot Woot!!! Run by if you can and be prepared for next year!

Parmesan Chicken

Have you tried this?

It is located next to the cheese and comes in multiple flavors.  I highly recommend this product.  The cost is is around $2 at Wal-mart and coupons.com often holds a $1 off coupon.  You CAN.NOT. beat this for just one dollar!! Are you tired of trying to figure out a new way to cook weekly chicken breast?? This requires no thinking.........the spices are mixed for you and are impressive!
Just mix it up and bake at 375 for around 30-40 minutes depending on the size of your chicken.

I added additional Mozz cheese b/c I had some!!

For sides I roasted sliced up potatoes and baby carrots.  I seasoned the potatoes with sea salt, pepper, italian seasoning, and garlic powder.  I used red pepper flakes on the carrots.  Bake on 425 until soft and brown on edges (the carrots will be done first).

Daniel is still embracing his "winter weight" so his chicken was served over rice.  I am starting to feel a little less than passionate regarding this holiday weight, so I skipped the rice and potatoes and chose spinach instead.

All together this could only be a weekend meal unless you have two ovens.  The chicken could be cooked on a weekday without the roasted veggies.  D scored this a 9.5 and stated that I have been impressive lately.  Well........thank you very much young man!!

Brookshires - BOGO

Sweet!!! Just in time for holiday party and meal planning - Brookshires comes through for us with their BOGO for a penny.  If you don't receive the circular, make sure to check it out on their website to plan out your shopping list! You can also try to carve out an hour of your time to cruise through the aisles looking for those special red tags!!! Some deals are not advertised, so this is beneficial in alot of ways.  HOWEVER, I only purchase SALE items from Brookshires.  Please do not be tempted to pick up other items unless the elevated price extremely out weighs the trip to Wal-Mart.  Say it with me....Red.Tag.Only.

It is time to start thinking about what you will serve for any gatherings you are hosting or expected to bring a dish.  Planning is key to saving money during the holidays.  Need to find that extra cash that you over spent during the massive black friday sales? (huge red blinking arrow pointing directly at my face)......Save it at the grocery store!

Here are some items I will be stocking:

Black Friday Review

I have been on deal overload this week!! So many deals everywhere I turn. Email after email...reminder after reminder....and then bill after bill. I.must.stop!!! I have gifts for any and every occasions (hopefully I don't raid the stash. Good stuff). I was never a girl scout, but I have managed to learn to always be prepared. Well, with gifts anyway. Regarding the rest of my life, I am typically behind and don't have what I need when I need it.

Here is my very important lesson from black friday 2013. Unless the electronics or limited doorbusters are an absolute MUST, shop first thing in the morning. I visited wal-mart at 5 am, parked in the third row, and purchased everything I needed with no line. Old navy and home depot. NO LINE. If you must shop thursday night, online is the way to go!!!!! Click click and done!

I ignored cyber monday...i am done and shopped out!!

I'll post other deals for the week tomorow. If you took advantage of all the drug store freebies, you have cash to roll!

Black Friday Continued

It is like I have been completely obsessed with all things sales.  I honestly don't even know if I will be shopping on Black Friday.  I just know that I am OBSESSED with the DEALS.  Craziness people!!  There are SALES everywhere.

Here are a few highlights:

1) Need a new comfortable carseat?? The Gracco My Ride is on sale on Amazon and Britax is on sale at Diapers.com RIGHT.NOW.

2) Kelly's Kids clothing will have 50% off of $100 of more on Friday.  I ADORE their matching sibling sets.

3) One of my all time favorite Black Friday sales is Remember Nguyen (website).  Everything is 50% off including clearance (I almost didn't want to post, because I didn't want you to grab up my sizes.  Then I realized that "my following" is not that strong). :)

4) The pocket hose will be on sale Friday at CVS for 9.99.  It is regularly 19.99.  Have you tried this yet?
We love it! It is 10 million times better than dragging around a big ole water hose!  Also, at CVS you can pick up cheap Cherrios, along with free candy and toothbrushes!

5) Have you seen the ever so popular Dream Lites? They are everywhere! After receiving 5000 points at Walgreens with your purchase, you can pick up one for 14.99!! My almost three year old is having major sleeping by herself issues.  I wonder if this weird looking little animal with lights would do the trick??

***PLUS - LOOK AT ALL THE 'FREE'!!***

To close out this edition of Black Friday talk, we cannot leave out my most favorite item in my life.  Next to God and family.......comes my Mr. P's tees.  Yep...before cake, before chocolate, before Mac and cheese, and all other amazing things in my life........my tees hold a strong place in my heart.  They pitched and tent and have made their home, every.single.one.  #nofavorites.

If you are local, Miss Persnickity Joon will be selling these mascot tees for $5 off.  If you don't have one by now you are missing out!! They are a MUST WEAR ALL THE TIME!!

Black Friday Prep

Alright people let's talk Black Friday. What are your plans? Fighting the crowds? Stalking the web? Have done your research and made a plan?

You must have a plan! It is essential if you plan to stay stong against the black hole of sales taunting you in every direction.

First make a list of names on your Christmas list and what you have in mind. Also, write a list of things on your own wish list.  Black Friday doesn't have to JUST be for Christmas gifts.  If there is a good deal on something you have been wanting, BUY IT! No judgement here.  This is THE BEST time to buy a TV if that is on you needs list.

Next, look over the ads for something that catches your eye.  I highly suggest an app on your phone for easy access.  I use the following for research purposes:

http://bfads.net - This website will hold all your sale ads and tips on the best deals.  I also recommend this app.  It is a quick and easy reference for all items included in the sales.

If you are not a crowd pusher, take note of the stores that will be running the sales online.  Obviously, watch out for shipping!!

If you see an item you like in stores or online always check the price against walmart or amazon.  Know the "deal" you are getting.  Just because it says its on sale doesn't really mean it is the best price available.

I don't plan to list the "best deals" because that really depends on what you are looking to buy.  You determine what is the best deal for YOU!!

Shrimp Fajitas

I must pause the regularly scheduled favorite things friday in which I planned to talk black friday sales.

Today I must bring you this.

This is your must make shrimp fajitas.

First you need this....

This is a new product that ran a promotion a few weeks ago. I was able to pick up two of these for 99 cents each. I believe they are typiclly $3. Still an excellent deal for what you get.

I planned on making shrimp over rice, but I was craving something new. Let the creativity began.

Using a pound of uncooked shrimp, sautee in 1/2 of the season sauce. Stir until pink.

In a seperate bowl boil rice. The recipe calls to add uncooked rice into the one skillet. I chose to do it seperate because I do not trust rice and I did not want my shrimp to over cook.

Cut up available veggies. I used green bell peppers and celery.

Add veggies and remaining sauce to the skillet. Cook until veggies are desire tenderness (if you prefer super soft veggies, you may want to add first so that you dont over cook shrimp).

Mix in cooked rice.

Heat soft tortillas in the oven.

Finalize skillet with salsa and cheese.

Daniel gave it a TEN. Rl said it was "dishes". Or delicious. :)

Total time was 30 minutes which INCLUDES defrosting shrimp and a toddler assistant who insists on helping with EVERYTHING. I highly recommend.

Deals this Week

Not alot of deals this week, so use this time to rest up for the looming BLACK FRIDAY SALES!!!!  I am doing the research and trying to determine what is worth the time.  I LOVE the excitement of black Friday, but I don't go crazy and wait and line for hours for ONE great deal (maybe if it were two..j/k).  A little secret.........most of the prices will remain the same once the craziness of Friday evaporates.

There are a few pre-sales going on right now that will end this weekend.  I will review these tomorrow.

In the meantime you can run by CVS and purchase a Glucose Monitor for 9.99 and receive 9.99 extra bucks!!  This is a GREAT item to donate.  I typically hand these over to my local council on aging.

Family update -

My hubs and I spent the weekend with amazing friends in New Orleans sans kids.  This was a first for me and I survived!!  We visited, ate AMAZING food, and watched the Saints pull out a win against the 49ers!!
Yesterday, baby Ruddick CRAWLED!! Where did he go first?? Jerking cords out of sockets!! My life is about to get a little more complicated. :)

Favorite Things Friday

Today I will share one of my favorite websites!!!!

Ebates.com - This website is a MUST for online shopping.  It is so easy.  You simply sign up and earn CASH BACK for the stores you shop.  To make this even better, signing up for the first time gives you a FREE $10 Gift Card!!  The stores included are endless, for example, Gap, Kohls, and even AMAZON!!

I have over $10 sitting in my Ebates Bank right now!!

Pretty cool right? Earned money for shopping I would be doing anyway! When you get ready to cash out, you simply transfer the money to paypal!!

Its legit and you should try it!

Monday Meal Plan

I have been terrible the last couple of weeks with my meal planning.  Lack of planning equals way too much eating out.  I know good and well I have more than enough in my kitchen, but I can't seem to think on the spot when the army (my husbands eats enough for an army) starts asking "what's for supper".

I had a successful Wal-Mart trip this weekend that allowed me to get back on track and get it together!!!!

Sunday - homemade potato soup. I randomly bought a large bag of potatoes on my last Sams trip.  I don't know why, but I did.  Perhaps I was having carb withdrawals.  All other ingredients were staples in my kitchen so it was no problem to work this up.  I basically made up the recipe that I will post soon.  You will most certainly want to make!!

**Had some extra time on time on Sunday, so I made a few egg and cheese burritos for the freezer
**Also made the amazing pumpkin muffins that you must make immediately if you have not
**Put turkey meat and deer meat in the fridge for defrosting

Monday - Dance for RL and leftovers

Tuesday -Turkey Taco Bowls. I won't be home for dinner the following two nights, so I will need to make sure the prep work is there for my culinary dependent army.......I mean husband. Ill make twice as much turkey than needed for one meal. Batch one for turkey taco bowls and batch 2 for chili. Meat purchased from brookshires bogo.

Wednesday - Turkey Chili - prepared in the AM and put in crockpot.

**After work I have the pleasure of presenting a deserving family with a financial grant for adoption           sponsored by one of my employers!!

Thursday - Left Over Chili. Girls night with church at Copelands! I am excited to meet and hopefully click with some new friends.

Friday - Turkey Dogs (purchased from the BOGO at Brookshires) and then bundle up for the Sterlington Highschool playoff game. Go Panthers!!

Saturday and Sunday - NEW ORLEANS and SAINTS football!!!!!

**For lunches we will have leftovers and deer meat and cheese burritos**

Deals This Week

I had no time for deals this week, so I am just now even looking through the ads and coupons from LAST Sundays paper.

There are a couple of things I may try to grab today after work.

Walgreens -

Buy 2 Cheerios $2.50 each and receive 2,000 Balance points (this converts to $2).  Use two 75 cent off from coupons.com.  Final cost 1.50 for both.

CVS -

Stop at the magic coupon machine and receive a coupon for Basics paper towels.  The paper towels will be FREE!

There were actually a few good deals out there that I would have been interested in if I had more time.  However, I don't so these will do!!!

This also squashes a common myth people have about couponing.  "It takes too much time" and "I don't have time for that".  It only takes as much time as you devote to it.  Yes, the initial learning will take time.  You will be slow at first and you will make mistakes.  However once you get the hang of it, it only takes the amount of time you choose.  Just do what you can and don't feel pressured by it!!

Happy Halloween!!

I wanted to do something cute for rls class party, but I didnt have a lot of time. I found this great idea on pinterest.

Cute, right? Cover vienna finger cookies with white icing and choclate chips for eyes? Did you know the cookies were called vienna fingers? I almost could not purchase because of that!!

So fun!
