Language development

Tonight I was asked to speak to a group of parents at my child care center about language development. Who would really trust my expertise?? I must look really smart!!

Since its on my mind; here are my tips......

#1. Have a conversation with your infants. When you talk in a high pitched voice and they smile and kick their feet. This is a conversation. Respond by increasing your excitement and helps them feel important and begin learning social rules of language

#2. Dont meet the need before allowing the child the opportunity to express himself. Its so easy (especially with multiple children) to quickly respond to a yell or a cry so that we can move on to the next task. Take a moment to encourage the words

For example....your toddler is attempting to climb on the couch. He throws a leg up, hits the cushion repeatedly and yells/whines. Dont put him on the couch just yet. Drop down to his/her level and say "up" with an empasis on the "p". Watch for any attempt to communicate and praise. Not only does this encourage language, but it also supports positive relationships.

#3. Remember that we are responsible for our childrens vocabulary. The more words we expose our children to the more they absorb and retain. Consider asking your older toddlers "whats your hypothesis" instead "what do you think" dont shy away from words you dont think they will understand. Teach the words instead.

Well... Hope you enjoyed randon tips by random jules!!

I heart Fall!!!

The minute I felt an ounce of coolness outside it was time to get out the pumpkins!!!!!!

I have always loved my fall porch, but last year I threw out the mesh. Im over it!!! This year I jumped on the burlap train!!

Here are the results!!

Do you love it? I sure do!!

I used burlap and two different types of ribbon. I bought this beautiful ribbon at paul michael so i spent way more than i should. Its beautiful ribbon but I have a lot of door so that adds up!!

For those who have never made a garland before its crazy easy. All you need is garland (which looks likes a christmas tree strand)

Loop the burlap and use the ties to secure it.

I added some twigs

I also did the mantel

Who doesnt love fall?

Yes....Landon likes Pageants

When I say little girl pageants, what do think of?? Are your thoughts full of judgement? Do you picture spray tanned little baby dolls prancing around on stage??

Or do you think of this sweet little precious baby girl................

Do you see how she is judging the crazies?

I've blogged about RLs pageants before.  She LOVES a stage!! I will continue to give her the opportunity as long as I ask her and she jumps up and down and says "Yay!! A Pageant!!!!"

Let me tell ya! It is an experience........and not always a pleasant one for the moms.  Sitting in the dressing room playfully dressing your daughter and spinning round and round in a pretty dress is a minority in the pageant world.  I am actually often alone. Instead moms jerk and pull their daughters hair yell at them to be still and close their eyes.  No thank you.  I don't have the energy for that.

Little Landon has the love of the stage in her blood. I can rap a mean ganstas paradise on the kareoake stage while my fans say "dj jazzy jules....what!!!"

All in all she did very well obtaining a significant amount of "titles" and gaining self confidence jumping around on the decorated stage!!

Good or Bad decision?

Its hot and I am sitting on the ground in work attire looking for a deal. Its the 1/2 price presale at munchkin market. Obsessed over a deal? Yes is probably the correct answer.

There are some newbies here that I dont like being in front of me in line. Shouldnt we have a veterans red carpet? Ive put in quite a bit of time here. Lets make me royalty, right?!?

2 days later.....

The results? Im happy, Im stocked, I got baby vigoss jeans for 2 dollars, Im a rockstar.

China Cabinet update

My grandmothers china cabinet moved into my house recently. I loved the shape, but the color of wood clashed with my kitchen cabinets. Daniel was immediately unsure of the piece and felt that the area seemed to cluttered, but agreed to let me try out some paint.

I was equally interested in painting the piece green or white.

I started with white. Landon liked it and daniel liked it but i wasnt impressed. The white against the wall was just blah to me.

So lets try green.

I really like the color of green, but wasnt so sure of how well it fit in my house. This shelf is displayed on the other side of the room.

I kept painting. As of right now, i really like it. I still have some work to finish it up. I will paint the inside shelves white and i am *considering* painting the mirrors. I saw it on pinterest.

Opinions? What do you think of the green?

Weekend Wrap

Labor Day weekend comes to a close and it is September!!!!! Every weekend will be full of football, pumpkins will be appearing soon, and I will patiently wait for the day I can walk outside in a sweatshirt.  Oh my happy happy place.

This weekend we hosted company and had a wonderful time!  Ricky and his daughters Brooklyn (10) and Lauren (7) stayed with us for a couple of days.  Mom had commitments so she couldn't make it so I promised to take good care of her girls.  The boys escaped a few times to hang out and watch football with friends and that left me with 4 kids.  I made the ignorant mistake of visiting the mall with the 4 kids in tow.  I am not cut out for that.  I was a nervous wreck walking through the parking lot (there are not enough eyes on my head), it was raining and the baby was getting soaked, the youngest ones had meltdowns, everyone had to visit the bathroom (and it was gross), the stroller would not fit into the stores that the older kids wanted to go in, and then of course the baby throws and monumental fit and throws his shoes a record breaking length into the crowd of mall visitors.

Needless to say, we did not stay long and I needed days to recover.  My ability to keep up with all the happenings furthers my theory that I am not as healthy as I should be.  Shouldnt I have a little more energy??

All in all, I LOVE this family and spending time with them makes my heart smile!!!
