Deals this Week

Not really alot to report this week for the handful of people who choose to read my deals.

Free at walgreens

Wheat thins on sale at brookshires.

I also want to make sure that everyone is aware and using the walmart savings catcher app. For those of you who absolutely dont want to touch a coupon here is any easy way for you to save!! Download the walmart app, scan your receipt after shopping and then the app will search for any competitor prices and then PAY YOU the difference!!! Yes, seriously. Its like price matching without the work. A coworker has earned up to $20 from her last trip. Ive only earned 28 cents which is a result of already knowing the lowest prices. However this may change the way i shop. We will see!!

Bonus pics for the weekend!!

Brookshires

Just a few things noted in the Brookshires circular.

Community coffee kcups $5.99

Did you know that this price is LESS than the walmart great value price??

For whatever reason, my helpful pictures of the circular will not upload. Boo!

There is an entire page of bogo items that you may be interesting in purchasing. Shop the aisles and look out for the red tags.

If you shop brookshires exclusively, please shop the sales. PLEASE! It stresses me out thinking of friends overpaying for items for the family!

I stopped by CVS to pick up a few deals and got a surprise from the magic coupon machine. Yay!

Its spring (today anyway) and sales are happening!!

Here a few I got emails about;

Lowes claims to be having a spring black friday sale

Express semi-annual 40% off clearance.

Pottery barn up to 60% off

Brookshires Cooking

You know that I am a huge fan of Brookshires sales. I love everything about this store except for the everyday prices. They are steep!!! I'm talking an extra $1.50-$2.00 compared to Wal-Mart. This adds up quick. However the sales make me do a little happy dance. :)

Here are a few meals based off of the Brookshires sales.

Gumbo. Chicken BOGO and prepared in the crockpot for easy shredding. BearCreek gumbo mix BOGO. This is an easy easy weeknight meal. Only the chicken and mix required!

Southwest salad with chicken and fresh veggies. Salad kit BOGO, chicken BOGO cooked on the skillet and seasoned with fajiti mix BOGO, fresh veggies precut on sale for 99 cents!! What was that? You can't eat healthy when couponing and shopping sales?? Well, yeah you can...

Chicken alfredo over pasta. Chicken, alfredo, and pasta all BOGO

This was delicious!!! I seasoned chicken with pepper, italian, and basil. Then added just 3 tablespoons of alfredo. Cook pasta as directed. 20 minutes start to finish!!

Meals this Week/Life update

Happy Monday!!!

Before I get to my blog writing today, I wanted to give a quick update of life stuff!  Last night I attended my first Heart to Home group.  This is a small group that pairs young women and experienced (does that sound better than "old") women to offer mentorship and support.  Joining this group has been on my heart for some time, but I have found multiple excuses not to make the commitment.  Let me set this up for you.....I walked into a group of about 15 people that had pre-established relationships and I knew NOONE!! Being from West Monroe, it is hard to not know anyone!! Those of you that know me are in shock right now.  This was totally out of my comfort zone, but I felt that it was God's instructions to follow through with this.  Everyone was super nice and welcoming.  I was quite most of the time and just listened.  This was probably a lesson I needed to learn, too.  Each girl was so different from the other, I liked this.  The lesson of the night focused on personal finances...whew, lets get right down to business!! I admire how transparent each of these girls and moms are with each other.  Transparent IS my comfort zone.  I don't know how to be any other way.  As the night wrapped up it was time to close with a prayer.  Guess who volunteered???......Most of you are NOT guessing me but you are wrong.  Yep....I prayed OUT LOAD in a group of people I have known for about an hour.  God does crazy things sometimes, I tell ya!!

I could talk alot more about my night and what I learned, but I am sure that will come out in blogs to come.  Right now I want to move on to meals this week based on Brookshires sales.

Here the products I am using that I picked up for BOGO.

Here is how it will play out...

Sunday - Turkey Mexican Pizza (I had the pleasure of being served at my Heart to Home group, but I was so excited about my groceries (insert Nerd Alert) I had to go ahead and prepare the meal)

*I cooked both packs of meat and divided out.  Will use one for Sunday's meal and one for later in the week*

I do my best to load all my meats with veggies.  It sneaks it in for the kids AND it gives me more meat (you know what I mean, right?).  I used celery, bell peppers, onions, and carrots (my Sams trip last week)

*Chopped up more veggies than I needed to use later in the week*

Monday - leftovers

Tuesday - "Darn Good Chili".  This is not the kind of chili that sits in the crock pot for hours and you serve on Super Bowl Sunday, but it is a quick week night meal using Bear Creek Soups (which I love).  I already have the meat and veggies, so I just mix it together!

Wednesday - left overs

Thursday - Pork Chops in the crockpot with BBQ sauce.

Friday - Left overs!

I love these kinds of weeks where my meals are all planned out and low stress.  This equals more time with my kids and happier mommy.

Tomorrow you will be bombarded with all things Ruddick!!!! It is his BIRTHDAY and I gave him a fresh hair cut this morning! ADORABLE for sure!

Brookshires - BOGO!!

This week's BOGO for a penny Brookshire's sale is pretty top notch! I'm not going to post on all the good deals, but highlight a few.  Clearly, what you use in your household are the items are the best deals for YOU.  I am often asked the question if you can use 2 coupons or $1/2 coupons on the BOGO items.  The answer is YES at my local Brookshires.  I do not know if that is a cooperate rule or not.  All I know is that I have always given them my stack and they have always scanned perfectly!!!

So given these rules, here are your deals!

Hormel Pork Loin - BOGO - Use 2 $1 coupon available on coupons.com.

Jeanie O Turkey Products - BOGO - $1/2 located on coupons.com and 1/5 paper.

Gortons Fish Sticks - BOGO - $.50/1 from 1/5 paper

Kraft Fresh Take - BOGO - **We need to check the price on this item.  The coupons just expired, but you can often get this product at Wal-Mart for just 99 cents with a coupon.  I LOVE this!! If it is over $1, I would wait it out.

Pillsbury Grands - BOGO - coupon from 1/5 paper makes them 80 cents each

I always love BOGO lettuce, cheese, any kind of produce!!

I encourage you to take a little extra time (I know it is hard, but it will make you feel so relaxed.  Or maybe thats just me) to browse the aisles.  Not everything on sale makes the paper ads!

Brookshires - BOGO

Sweet!!! Just in time for holiday party and meal planning - Brookshires comes through for us with their BOGO for a penny.  If you don't receive the circular, make sure to check it out on their website to plan out your shopping list! You can also try to carve out an hour of your time to cruise through the aisles looking for those special red tags!!! Some deals are not advertised, so this is beneficial in alot of ways.  HOWEVER, I only purchase SALE items from Brookshires.  Please do not be tempted to pick up other items unless the elevated price extremely out weighs the trip to Wal-Mart.  Say it with me....Red.Tag.Only.

Monday Meal Plan

Here is the plan for the week!!

Sunday - BBQ Shredded Chicken Sandwich with Roasted Bell Peppers

Monday - Leftovers

Tuesday - Ranch Chicken Salad Sandwiches (pending - May have guests that night to serve)

Wednesday - Garlic Shrimp

Thursday - Turkey Burgers (make extra)

Friday - leftovers

I have been obsessed with roasting veggies lately.  I am usually a sautee kind of girl, but I have been loving this new roasting option.  The Cons:  it takes a little while to get them truly done and it makes my kitchen smokey.  The Pros:  You can throw them in the oven and not have to do anything else until their done.  Plus, everything roasted is deliciousness!!

Roasted Bell Peppers:

I picked up Red Bell Peppers from the Brookshires BOGO sale this week.  I typically do not buy Red Peppers because of the price, but I thought I would try them out since they were on sale.  I also recently read a recommendation that roasted red peppers are a good table food option for babies.

I sliced them up and spread them over a cookie sheet covered with wax paper and drizzled with EVOO.  I chose not to season them at this point since the baby would be eating some.

Cook in the oven set to 425 for 20 minutes.  They could have stayed in longer, but I had a pacing daddy and a clingy two year old that needed to be fed pronto!!

I removed a few peppers for baby R and then seasoned HEAVILY with Sea Salt, Garlic Powder, Pepper, Old Bay Season, and Tony's.  Season, taste, and add as needed.

You can season with anything you like.  We prefer a kick in the taste and are NOT fans of bland food.  It took quite a bit of seasoning to give these a good flavor.  However, they were quite yummy in the end.

Baby R was not ready for the pepper.  He had trouble controlling it in his mouth and almost gave me a panic attack!!

The Meal:

Chicken - BOGO Brookshires
Bread - BOGO Brookshires
BBQ Sauce - 25 Cents at Freds (memorial day sale)
Lettuce - BOGO Brookshires
Steamed Green Beans - BOGO Brookshires
Provolone Cheese - Sale at Target using target coupons
Red Bell Peppers - BOGO Brookshires

Brookshires Deals - Week of 9/4

Here we go again....another BOGO Brookshires Sale!!!  Geez, Mr. Brookshires sure knows how to make a couponing girl fall in love. Sales...lots of them.....on my birthday week!! I don't need much in life.  Just a good penny sale to ring in the big THIRTY FOUR.  I actually had to subtract 1979 from 2013 to confirm I was correct on my age.  At some point, you just loose track or don't care...whatever.

Items I like in the sale this week:

Sirloin Steak - BOGO - would be good for some fajitas!

Tyson Boneless Skinless Chicken - BOGO - My go to freezer meals!

Nature's Own Whole Wheat Bread BOGO - (this item typically goes fast) - throw a loaf in the freezer and save for later

Red Bell Pepper - BOGO - I have been wanting to roast one and let baby R try it out!

Brookshires Chips - BOGO - It's Football season! You always need chips!!

Green Giant Steamers - BOGO Use .60/3 from coupons.com

Fresh Express Shreds - BOGO - Use the lettuce for the fajitas

Libbys Canned Veggies - BOGO - Buy 4 and use $1/4 from RP 8/25

3lb bag of apples - BOGO - Baked apples for R and maybe some apple art projects for RL?

There are other deals out there, but this is all I need this week.  Remember that sales always come back around so don't get out of control.  Since I still have meat in the freezer from previous sales and my dad just dropped off a ton of deer meat, this will be all I need for the week!

Brookshires' sales run Wednesday through Tuesday.  The earlier you shop the better the selection, but they typically don't completely run out.

Freezer Cooking Based on Brookshires Sales!

One of my goals every Sunday is to try to cook at least one item to put in the freezer. Freezer meals are amazing for weekdays and I have so much more time to spend with my kids before thier bedtime. Today I was a rockstar in the kitchen and was able to prepare 6 bags of chopped onions, 9 egg muffins, 10 breakfast burritos, and 10 chicken and cheese burritos!

I started by putting a pack of chicken tenders in the crockpot before church. (Purchased at the BOGO sale at brookshires)

Season with lemon/pepper, salt and pepper. Add a little bit of water and cook on low.

By the time we ate lunch and rl went down for a nap, it was done!

Now just shred it up!

Most of the time, I freeze the chicken plain and shredded. You can use it for tons of different meals... Chicken spaghetti, bbq chicken, mexican chicken, etc.

Today I made chicken and cheese burritos using the tortillas from the BOGO at brookshires. These are great plain so that you can add anything you are in the mood for like bbq or salsa.

To make things go a little quicker, I go ahead and tear off 10 squares of tin foil

Then i just wrap them up and place them in a bag.

I also made breakfast burritos with eggs, cheese, and sausage. Sometimes I use deer sausage or turkey sausage. This time it was plain ole unhealthy sausage bc......you guessed it. BOGO at brookshires. I used 8 eggs and a pack of sausage for 10 totillas.

Bags of onions were BOGO and I love to cook with onions. I chopped up one bag and stored them in individual bags to use for meals.

Finally, I made egg muffins! I got a dozen eggs free with the purchase of turkey bacon!!

Scramble eggs ( i used 6) and add whatever you like! This time I used salt, pepper, cheese, ham, and onions. In the past, I have also used salsa, spinach, turkey. Basically whatever you want to throw in!

The next step is VERY important. Spray a muffin tin excessively. I am serious. Disregardig the importance of this step will leave you soaking and scrubing for days. Make sure to spray the sides well too.

Fill almost to the rim. Fill higher than the pic below. They turned out kind of thin.

Bake at 350 for about 25 min. Check them. You can tell when they are done.

Flash freeze them and then just pile them in a freezer bag. Now they are ready for a quick breakfast!!

Ill post a couple of deals tomorrow, but there aren't alot out there this week.

I am working on a couple of blogs that I am really excited about. One is a big list of comparable prices at different stores. What items cost at sams, walmart, target, etc. This will help us have more confidence when spotting what we think is a deal.

I am also working on a series that will teach 10 habits to save money for your family. Even if you are naturally frugal, we could all use reminders every once in a while!!

Brookshires and Pennies - Week of 8/5

Yep!  It's that time again Brookshires Buy One Get One for a Penny Sale!!

This is great timing as I was just beginning to plan meals for company coming in Labor Day weekend.  It is a couple and their two kids so I will have plenty of mouths to feed.  This is a perfect example of how to save money by living with a couponing frame of mind.  To make the savings work, I cannot just decide on meals and recipes and run out to the grocery store.  I have to take what I have, what is on sale, and the best deals and plan from there.  It is really not that hard once you create the habit.  It's fun to be creative and work with what you have.  It's really a great lesson in life.

Here is a list of what I plan to purchase:

Pork Chops - BOGO - I have made some really good Pork Chop recipes lately - posts soon

Chicken - BOGO

Natures Own Bread - BOGO - Freeze a loaf for company coming at the end of the month

Lettuce - BOGO - This will replace our spinach for the week

Carrots - BOGO - This is great since I have been putting carrots in with my meat and I can make some baby food for R

Mission Tortillas - BOGO - Check the price to be under $1.80 each after sale.  These can be frozen

3 lb Bag White Onions - BOGO - Take the time and weigh.  The one that weighs the most gives you the most bang for your buck.  Go ahead and dice some up and freeze them.

Jennie - O Turkey Products -
BOGO - This is my favorite - STOCK UP

Jimmy Dean Sausage - BOGO - combine with tortillas to make breakfast burritos for company
**There is a coupon in RP from 7/14**

Natures Valley Hot Dog Buns - BOGO - Freeze for company

Natures Valley Hamburger Buns - BOGO - Freeze for company

Lunchables - BOGO - Check price to be under $1 each

Skinner Pasta - BOGO

Community Coffee Creamer - BOGO - check price to be under Great Value

Kraft Handi-Snacks Pudding - BOGO - check expiration date for company?

Food Club Cream Cheese - BOGO - make pesto spread for company

Brookshires Pizza - BOGO

Food Club Biscuits - BOGO - For...You guessed it..company!!

Oscar Mayer Deli Fresh Meats - BOGO

Boneless Pork Loin Roast - BOGO - I'm thinking shredded tacos for company!

I also like this neat deal

This is significantly cheaper than walmart and you can get a $2 coupon from www.buildabetterlunch.com

There are most certainly other deals to shop for based on what you need for your family.  I am excited to see my total spent.  I challenge myself to stick to this list!! Since I was able to skip the grocery store last week, I'm glad to see this penny rotation just when I need it!!
Let me know the deals that you like!!

Pennies and Brookshires!

Do you ever get annoyed with those pesky pennies? Put them to use this week at the BOGO sale at Brookshires. This is THE place to stock up on meat!

Carefully review your paper (you should receive it in the mail) and look for items you typically buy. Most of the time the items will tell you the amount that you will save in a little yellow box. This is the price of the item. In my experience getting two for the always higher Brookshires price will come out less than Walmart.

Based on whats available, here are the items I will buy and make work in my weekly meals:

Meat (obviously)
Salad express
Peppers
Natures own bread
John soules fajitas
Cream cheese
Taco shells (check price vs food club)
Bottled water
Crayons
Food club baking powder and soda (check price) (web saver)
Oscar myer lunch meat-coupon (web saver)

This doesn't mean that these are the only good deals, but this is all I need to stay within my monthly grocery budget

The deals on the meat are good, but unfortunately there are not a lot of coupons available for the other items. Therefore it is not time to stock up.

There are a few select school supplies 75 percent off at rite aid right now. These are great items to stock up and donate.

The family dollar sale is still going on this week. Get pudding for free and BBQ sauce for 25 cents. This is a seriously good deal!

I also love the dollar days end caps a family dollar. They have some really great stuff

Be careful with family dollar. Some would assume that everything is less expensive, but that is not true. A lot of their prices are actually higher than Walmart even when the item is "on sale"

Bonus. Ruddick's first time in his high chair. Third day on baby food and he loves it. My sis mentioned a way of thought floating around in the parent world regarding skipping the purées and going straight to finger foods. She is great at reading and actually retaining information. Me, not so much.

WHOA TARGET!!!

I have been off the air for a few days with technical difficulties.  I wasn't able to upload pics on my computer ( I am not sure why it all of a sudden worked today) and I also tried this really exciting blogger app, but it would not let me upload pictures EITHER!! It has been really frustrating and a cause for backed up information so I will try to be easy and not overwhelm you!!

I am counting my minutes before the kids wake up and I must end our special time together, so I will start with what I think was an exciting couponing trip to target!! The goal was to clearance stalk and combine manu coupons, target coupons, mobile coupons, cartwheel, and of course the red card.

Here are the highlights:

I always love having these in my purse for emergencies.  I dug around and found this one box with a clearance sticker! Combine with an Ibotta offer, they are $1.61!

**Well, it seems that RL had deleted my pics of other great deals!! AGH! I just cannot get it together!  I will just have to tell you about it.  This will give my readers a chance to practice creativity by creating visual representations in your mind.  We are given too many conveniences in life, so I am really just trying to help you out by recharging your brain! :)**  #whatever

I small pack of Poise liners had a clearance sticker for $2.11.  I had a $2 off coupon from coupons.com which made them 11 cents.  I was nervous about this one bc the coupon read "hourglass" and the product did not specify, but it worked no problem!!  Typically carefree liners can be purchased for 50 cents with coupons, so that is my bottom line.  Anything under, I always try to pick up.  I did not have any extra coupons with me (honestly, I didnt think I would be lucky enough to find this deal), so I didnt get to stock up!

Aquafresh training toothpaste was on price cut for $2.  I had a target coupon for $1 off any aquafresh.  I am not sure where this coupon came from as the coupon fairy (my neighbor) left it on my doorstep for me! Plus I had a .75 cents manu coupon.  That makes it 25 cents!!!! You can't beat that!

Do you get the baby coupons in the mail from target??? If you don't already, you def want to!! There was a coupon for spend $50 in baby products, receive a $10 Gift Card.  $50 in the baby aisle.....no problem!! I had several cartwheel offers for these products, so I really wanted to see if I can get the gift card by spending $50 before the cartwheel!! Sure, no problem! Just have them scan the coupon first!!  Here are some things I picked up:

Target Diapers - They were on sale for 14.20 for a substitute for another item that they were out of stock.  I've never seen this notification before, but I saw it several times on my trip.  I'll tell ya, I use to think this target was terrible but they are really stepping up their game!! I also had a cartwheel.

Formula - Cartwheel

Onsies for Ruddick - Clearance.  This child is growing FAST and I am not prepared!!

Up and Up baby lotion and wash - Cartwheel. I need to make a diaper cake for a couple of friends who just had a baby and these are the perfect centers

Yogurt bites and applesauce - cartwheel

Up and Up baby food - Clearance! I checked the expiration date and there is plenty of time for Ruddick to start eating!

Other great finds included Market Pantry protein bars for D.  They were on clearance for $2.50 for 6! That is huge!  He was paying over a dollar per bar at Walmart!

Market Pantry fruit snacks are regular $1.86 plus a target coupon for $1 off two equals $1.36 per box.  This is unbeatable.

I could go on and on, but the kids are stirring and all of the words without pictures is a little annoying to me.  However, I can't leave this subject without mentioning that my printed out cartwheel caused TWO registers to shut down!!! Everything had to be rung up a total of THREE times!! The manager suggested I use the cartwheel on my phone in the future.  Luckily target was not busy and everyone was very nice about it!

Here is an art project that RL and I are working on for her room.  Use painters tape on a canvas and paint around it for a cool kid created learning tool!  She loves that she made a "L" for her room.  We will work on the "R" next.

Here is another variation of the salads I been eating.  $1 sausage from brookshires over spinach with corn from the cob (30 cents), turkey bacon (BOGO at brookshires) over spinach (always regular price).  Not the healthiest, but cheap and good!!

MEALS AND DEALS

Well........todays blog shall include a "what not to do" segment. After dance lessons, dinners, baths, and putting the kids to bed, it was time to open the kitchen to prepare a work lunch for the next day (taco meat for 13 hungry academic advisors) and dinner for myself. I never eat this late, but I dreamed up the idea of taco chicken burgers and at that point it was the only acceptable option.

First the taco meat. I absolutely could not spend the money on enough meat for 13 advisors when I had plenty of deer meat in the freezer. I completely respect that not everyone is comfortable eating deer meat, so I planned to cook both. There is a considerable difference in the amount of grease in each skillet. Can you see the difference in the deer meat vs regular?
**Warning - this may be disturbing to some viewers**

So as the meat was cooking, I started working on the delicous chicken burgers I was craving. I added the meat, an egg, salsa, garlic powder, taco seasoning, and chives.

I patiently waited for an available spot on the stove while my mouth watered in anticipation.

8:45 and time to eat!!! Or not..........
This is what happened to my genious of an idea taco chicken burger :(

Because of the salsa it all looked pink to me and I could not tell if it were done or not. I took a few bites off the top that were amazing, but I had to trash the rest. I just could not take the chance of undercooked chicken. It was a really sad moment for me. I went to bed unfed. I am still upset about it and I will probably not buy ground chicken again unless someone provides me with a fool proof recipe or a high value coupon.

Moving on...tuesday is my favorite day to check the mail. Why you ask?? The Brookshires circular of course. Here are the deals to catch this week. Remember that in order to maximize your savings with coupons, you must plan your week and meals around the sales and coupons available.

These are cheaper during the BOGO sale, but if you must have them this week make sure to load the coupon from their website.

Its sideways - sorry!!! Grapes and Corn!

Yay for turkey meat!! Save even more with a Ibotta offer.  Coupon from coupons.com.  You can print 2 per computer.

Coupon from coupons.com

Coupon from coupons.com.  BBQ sauce is also on sale at Freds if you want an even better deal!

Meal ideas...bbq turkey loaf or turkey and rice tacos!!
