Blog Confessions and Update on Deals

I have been awful at blogging lately.  I am constantly taking pictures of different things so that I can include it on my blog, but I never blog?!?!  My confession.........I have been sleeping in a bit.  Sometimes not getting up until 6:30 AM WHAT?!?! Crazy late for me!!!  Therefore, my blogging time has suffered.

My new plan:  I am going to try and stick to a Monday/Wednesday/Friday blog plan.  Trying to blog every day is an unreal expectation right now.  It just doesnt work out.  Hopefully setting this goal will help with some consistency on when you get to read my ground breaking thoughts. :)

This week at Walgreens I scored some crazy awesome deals!!

A box of Capri Sun - Buy 2 for $4 receive 2,000 points which equals $2 - Therefore $1 each!!! Perfect since I signed up for Juice boxes for RL's Halloween party at school!!

Colgate Toothpaste - $3.50 receive $3 Register Rewards and use .50 coupon from last weeks paper = FREE

***Everyone check this one out!!**

In the Walgreen's ad (you can pick it up in the store) - there is a $5 off coupon for Halloween costumes.  Some costumes are $5.99 so you can get them for 99 cents.  But WAIT....some of the $5.99 costumes are on clearance for $3.19 which means you get them for FREE!! What! What!  Limit 3.

This is super easy and you don't have to walk in with anything (other have a Walgreens card) and score this deal.  Make sure to check out your local Walgreens to see what you can find.  Varies by store!

Not pictured: angel costume and toothpaste.

Total spent in the picture above plus toothpaste and angel costume: $2!!!

Walgreen Deals this Week

This week Walgreens hit it out of the park with freebies!!  Always remember to split your transactions if you are buying multiple items with rewards.  This will lower the amount of money you pay out of pocket in a single trip.

**Walgreens rule - you must have the same amount of items to purchase as you have coupons and register rewards.  For example:  You are buying 3 soaps and you have a coupon for each one AND you want to pay with a Register Reward.  This is 4 "coupons" for only 3 items and will not be allowed.  In this case, you would want to grab a filler item.  Maybe something that you need that is on sale to match the price of walmart, or a pack of gum, or a 10 cent piece of caramel they often have sitting by the register.

The follow are easy free items AFTER RR.  Take 10% of the price to determine what you will actually be paying for the item (tax).  Will you use the item? Can you donate? Remember that if you are donating the item you can claim the actual price of the item for tax purposes.

- Mountain Dew Kick Start - $1.00 - 10 cents
- Jamieson Melotonin - $7.00 - 70 cents
- Next 10 Energy Shots - $5.00 - 50 cents
- Urinary Infection Test Strips - $8.00 - 80 cents
- Urinary Health Supplement - $10.00 - 1 dollar
- Probiotic Digestive Health - $10.00 - 1 dollar

So $43.10 dollars worth of products for $2.10.  I'd say that is a pretty good deal, right?

Want an update on whats going on in the Emory household? I know you do.  Well, baby Ruddick is no longer has a bottle. :( I was sad since he is my final baby.  Daniel was HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY since he is in charge of making and washing all of the bottles. They are Dr. Browns so you can imagine he is a little burned out.  I am an all or nothing mama when it comes to this transition .....no weaning....... no mixing ......just do it. We woke up Sunday morning with only offering milk in a sippy. He did GREAT! He was pretty grouchy and had to learn to eat more of the food offered, but he was ready.  Mama is still a little sad.

Deals this Week

I am feeling pretty good after the Brookshires sale and anxiously anticipated the Target sale, so I don't plan on putting much effort into the drugstores.  I am skipping CVS all together.  If you do happen to stop there this week, make sure to pick up a free piece of candy.  Just scan your cvs card at the magic coupon machine and the coupon should print out.  The candy is typically located next to the machine.  I am also skipping Rite Aid.  To walgreens it is this week!!

Walgreens:

Emerguxcemtric 8 Hours of Energy - $8.00 - Receive $8 Register Rewards - Free (about 80 cents with tax) - Energy shots are not my thing, but my husband likes them on the weekend.  80 cents is significantly cheaper than the ones he typically buys (and will regardless if they are one sale), so I will pick this item up for him.

Rescue Natural Stress Relief Gum - $4.99 - Receive $4.99 Register Rewards - Free (about 40 cents with tax)
-The reviews are pretty decent, so I am willing to try it for free

Dawn Dish Liquid - .99 cents - Use .50 off from PG 12/29

To save on out of pocket expenses I will do the following.

Transaction #1 - Purchase the Stress Relief Gum and the Dawn.  Use my previously earned 5,000 points which equals $5.  Get back $4.99

Transaction #2 - Purchase energy shot - use $4.99 RR pay around $5 and get $8 back.

Now today is supposedly the Eve to the big Target sale.  Will it be or will it won't? I checked out my inventory today and it is chipping away and I am getting really anxious.  Some things I wanted are still in stock and others aren't :(  I just need it to get here already!!!! Let's move those toys OUT!!

Better Late Than Never - Deals this Week 9/2

I apologize for this late post but I have good reasons! I had some wonderful guests the entire weekend and had a blast!! I will post on this fun family visit in the next few days.

For now, I want to get to the deals this week.

Walgreens:

I am so excited about this deal, I can hardly stand it.  Unfortunately, they were out once I got to the store :(  So for the first time ever I asked for a Rain Check.  It was actually no big deal.  A rain check allows you to use the sale price when the store re-stocks the item.

Use $1 Kashi coupon from coupons.com or from the back of a previous Kashi box and score this cereal for 99 cents vs $3 at Walmart!!

If Crest is your brand, this is the time to pick it up, along with a bottle of scope.  Find $1.50 off coupon for scope and 50 cent off crest in the PG 9/1 insert.

Rite Aid:
$2.50 for a 12 pack is the price to look for for canned cokes.  This week at Rite Aid, you can get this deal.

There is also an unadvertised deal on Noxema Shaving Cream.  Sale price $1.99 with $2 UP rewards!! You can get 4 bottles for FREE!!

Buy 2 boxes of K-cups at $5.99 and use two 1.50 coupons from coupons.com.  Spend $10 get $3 ups rewards.

This makes each k-cup 25 cents!! I usually consider 40 to 50 cents a decent deal so 25 cents is AWESOME!

Buy 2 Say Yes to Cucumbers Facial Towels at $5.99.  Use 2 $3 off from coupons.com.  Spend $10 get $5 ups rewards.  This makes each one 46 cents!!! What?!?

Colgate toothpaste.  $2.99 with $2 Ups Rewards.  Use 75 Cent coupon from coupons.com and SS 8/25.

CVS:

Scan the Magic coupon machine for the deals this week!  No extra coupons needed!

Klenex box 88 cents - $1 off PG product from coupon machine = FREE

Soup $1 - 50 cents off from coupon machine = 50 cents

CVS lotions $1.50 each - $2/2 from coupon machine = 2 for $1

Here is a pic of my killer deals this week.  The only thing that would make it better would be several boxes of 99 cent Kashi cereal.  Patience, I guess.

$38.81 worth of product for $8.  Thats $30 in savings just this week! Let's get to couponing ladies! Join the obsession!!

The Deals This Week

Before I get to the deals I snatched up this week, we need to talk.  If you read my blog consistently (all 4 of you), you know that I try to eat a somewhat of a low-carb diet.  I am not a strict Atkins girl, but I try to choose dinner options that don't include pasta or bread.  I most certainly splurge and will eat 11 freshly made homemade cookies if you sit them in front of me, but I don't stock them in my house.  Well, now I have found a new diet plan that I am unfortunately committing to in the very very near future.

Let me first clarify my weight loss goals.  I know that I am not overweight.  I also know that I am not in shape.  I will address that in the Fall with exercise.....maybe.  My initial goal is basically to fit back into the clothes I was wearing before my pregnancy with R.  Every once in a while I still wear maternity pants to work.  Very often, I still wear the belly band to secure my dress pants I can't seem to button.  The morning closet scan has become a dreaded moment for me due to the struggle of just finding something to fit.  I feel for the neglected cute shorts that will have to go into storage for another year before they see the sunlight.  I am stuck with a mere 7 lbs left to loose.

Okay...so the diet plan.  Are you ready for this?  Wait for it........ADULT BRACES!!!
Did you gasp? Are you frightened? Will you call me braceface??  How is this a diet plan you ask? I will have lots of rubber bands parading around my mouth in order to straighten up my jaw (the reason for the braces).  I cannot imagine that a snack here and there will be worth taking and putting back in all those pesky little things.  Plus the basic thought of a mouth full of metal just makes me nauseous.  Ugh!

The date is August 15th.  Please keep me in your thoughts.

On to the Deals of the Week.

My husband has challenged me to spend little out of pocket this month and just ride on the rewards I receive as well as my stockpile.  So, that is what I will focus on for this week.  Of course I am still taking advantage of alot of school supply offers to help my friend Misti who is a full-time missionary and in need.

WALGREENS:

Transaction #1 -

Crest Mouthwash - Use $1.50 coupon from 7/28 paper.
Paid $1.76 -  Receive $2.00 Register Rewards (moneymaker)

Transaction #2 -

Colgate toothpaste - Use $1 coupon from 7/28 paper - Receive $2.50 Register Reward
3 Compasses - $.87
1 10 pack of pens - $.29
6 5 packs of mechanical pencils - $1.74
Bic colored pencils - on sale .99 use $1 off Bic from 8/4 paper (free!)
Use $2.00 from first transaction and pay $4.76  out of pocket and receive $2 Register Reward

So $6.52 out of pocket with $2.50 RR back so basically $4.02 for all of these products!

RITE AID

Rite Aid did not have any AMAZING deals this week, but I had a ton of Ups Rewards that I had to use before expiration.  When this happens, it is time to search the sales for products you use, on sale for the week, and is cheaper than Walmart.  Alot of times I am just looking for the freebies or under a $1, but they are not always available.  You don't want to pay full price for an item (or worse over the cost of Wal-Mart) just because you have Ups rewards.  That defeats the purpose of getting the original good deal that gave you the Ups!

Here is what I found....

Wet and Wild Nail Polish on sale for $.67.  Use 2.00/3 from 7/28 paper.  Final price .01 cent for all 3!!!
***I never buy nail polish, but it was fun to splurge on fun colors since it was free***

Now this next deal is a little embarrasing. Since honesty is good for the soul, I will share.  My hubs is really into foot care.  He is.  It's weird.  Since, I don't want him to go and spend crazy money on powders and creams, I have to be on the look out for good prices.  I can't believe I am even sharing this!!!

Gold Bond Powder BOGO 50% off
Gold Bond Foot Cream BOGO 50% off
Use 4 $1 off coupons from smartsource online.

Used up rewards from last week and paid $2.67 out of pocket and received $6 up rewards.

Okay, so this week I've spent about $9 out of of pocket. I didn't need any groceries so I am on track so far.

What have you learned from today's blog? My hubs takes care of his feet and I am about to be Brace Face.  Do you feel educated? :)

Deals this week - July 21

There are not a ton of great deals out there this week, so other than a few school supply items I plan to take this week off.

In order to stay within your set budget each month, there needs to be weeks that you spend zero on groceries. Take your random kitchen items and make random meals. I have plenty of them, but I won't bore you. Want to share your go to weekly meals?

Deals I noticed in the paper:

Office depot - use these to hold your coupons in your purse!

Target

And lots from walgreens

Composition book

Backpacks

Erasers

Im excited about what I am doing with school supplies this season!!! I have a good friend who serves as a missionary/teacher in Pane Honduras. She is an amazing selfless woman who has given up all of the convenience of the
American life for she and her son to serve others on a volunteer bases. I have known her for about 8 years and she has always talked about her desire to serve in this area. I am so inspired by her obedience and patience as she watched God pave the way to move her to Honduras.

Let's be real and honest. I am just too selfish of a person to do the work she does. I place alot of value on materials and convenience...internet shopping, a vehicle in the garage, air condition. I can't imagine giving those things up for an undetermined amount of time.

So how can I support her? School supplies are really expensive there, so a school supply drive we will have!!!!

If you are in town drop offs can be made at first west and first west fairbanks or I can pick up. If your not in town, you can donate $ and I will shop for you. Do you know how many kids you can provide for with just $5???

I know that I could never do what she does everyday, but this is what I can do.

Deals this week.

There a lot of great deals this week that allowed me to stock up on items that my family regular uses rather its on sale or not.
Kashi and Special K cereal on sale for 2.50 at Walgreens compared to $3 at Walmart (i had a few $1 off coupons collected from the back of previous boxes).

Also at Walgreens, chex mix bogo ($3.17) plus I had a couple of 50 cents off 1 and 60 cents off 2 so I got them for $1.08 and $1.28.

Plus....a great price on water. $1.99!!

Rite aid has the crest mouthwash on sale for 4.99 with a $3 up rewards. Use a $1.10 coupon from coupons.com and score it for 89 cents.

Plus reach toothbrush on sale with up rewards and coupon from coupons.com

Cvs has tampons with $3 extra bucks plus $3 coupon from coupons.com equals $1.99.

These are just a few highlights. Let me know if your looking for even more deals!!!

I served seared Tuna last night!! I've posted my recipe before and it is soooooo good. Garlic ginger (found in the Asian aisle) is the key. This is not something that can be made unless someone else is in control of the kids. You have to really watch the tuna when it's in the skillet. Total time is only about 25 mins.
I pour a mixture of rice vinegar, balsamic vinegar, garlic ginger, and season with salt and pepper. Use the back of a fork and press into the tuna a bit.

The rice vinegar and balsamic vinegar are totally not necessary. I just had it, so I added it.

Heat evoo on med heat for about 3 mins until hot and then place the tuna.

I added celery.

If you want it good and seared it takes about 3 to 4 minutes per side.

After removing from the skillet, I reseason with salt, pepper, and soy.

It is great over a spinach salad with balsamic vinegarette dressing.

And for an update on the family. We are trying out a new sticker chart strategy with RL. We really need to get her in the habit of picking up after herself,
Poopooing in the potty (and not her panties or the floor) and also keeping her clothes on.

I let her help decorate it.

I started out by giving her a sticker for anything she slightly did good. I wanted her to get the hang of it. The p stands for prize ( 10 stickers equals a trip to the prize box) and the t stands for tea party (which she loves). This is also a good way to reinforce letters and counting.

Yesterday was Ruddick's 6 mth bday and I totally forgot. Mom fail. He is just now getting the hang of rolling over. Both of my kids were "behind" in this milestone. RL actually had to attend physical therapy when she still wasn't pushing up at 6 mths. I am so thankful that Ruddick is progressing.

*****i intended to include a super cute pic here but he fell asleep before I got one ******
